How to create faxes using PasTeX and AmigaFax?
1) Append the files 'config/DVIprint.printers' and 'config/modes', which
accompanied this ReadMe-file, to 'TeX:config/DVIprint.printers' and
'TeX:config/modes' respectively.
2) Append 'inputs/PasTeX-modes.mf' to 'TeX:inputs/PasTeX-modes.mf'.
3) Now you have to rerun Metafont. Issue the command
cd TeX:bases
inimf plain.inimf
or execute the script 'MakeMFBase'.
4) 'DVIprint.printers' contains the definitions of two new printer drivers,
namely FaxFine (216 x 216dpi) and FaxNormal (216 x 108dpi).
Everything is set up now, but you still have to create the new 216dpi fonts.
The easiest way to achieve this is as follows:
a) Create a TeX-document, you wish to send as a fax.
b) There are a two possible ways to convert a dvi-file into a fax: You either
direct the output of DVIprint to an iff-ilbm-file, include it in an AmigaFax
document via the '.INC'-command and then compile this document using mkafax or
you just use dvifax to convert a dvi-file into a fax. The latter is more
efficient and saves you from the iff-ilbm-kludge.
But remember your situation: you do not have any fonts, yet, and dvifax does
not automatically invoke Metafont in order to create the fonts needed. This
is why I suggest that you use DVIprint to create the fonts and later on use
dvifax. In order to create fonts you should invoke DVIprint, specify FaxFine
or FaxNormal as your printer driver and direct the output to an iff-ilbm-file.
c) If everything worked fine, Metafont has created new fonts which now reside
in your TeX:pk directory. Make sure that these fonts are located in directories
like TeX:pk/216 or TeX:pk/311 etc., otherwise dvifax will not find them.
Supposing you do not use different fonts or magnifications in your TeX-document
created under a), you can from now on use dvifax to create your faxes. If dvifax
fails to find a font, you should reassure yourself whether the respective font
is located in the proper directory or whether it exisists at all. In the latter
case you have to invoke Metafont as described under b).
